Properly changing the battery on this vehicle will help provide long lasting engine performance.

This truck uses a large 12v battery to power the engine and the components that are inside and outside the truck. The battery is located inside the engine compartment on the driver's side toward the front of the engine compartment. A large plastic box conceals the battery and wires.

Disconnect the wires

Lift up on the four plastic fasteners on the right and left sides of the battery box. Lift up on the cover and pull it off the battery box. Loosen both battery wire securing clamps using a 1/2-inch box wrench and then pull both wires from the battery.

Tip: You can be seriously shocked if you don't properly disconnect the battery before you proceed with this job.

Removing the mount

Remove the four nuts on each side of the metal mounting beam across the top on the battery. Pull the nuts off the mounting beam and then pull the mounting beam off the battery. Place both the mounting beam and the nuts aside.

Tip: The mount and the securing nuts are in clear view once you have removed the cover from the box.

Removing the battery

Remove the two plastic mounts from the right and left sides at the bottom of the battery box using a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the battery up and out of the battery box. Place the stock battery on the ground out of your way.

Tip: The battery will not come out of the battery box until you have releast both mounts at the bottom of the box.

Installing the new battery

Place the new battery into the battery box and line up the mounts at the bottom of the box up with the sides of the new battery. Tighten the mounts using a Phillips head screwdriver.

Installing the metal brace

Place the metal brace onto the top of the new battery and slide it onto the two mounting rods. Tighten the securing nuts until they are snug. Reconnect the battery cables the opposite way that you removed them from the battery. Place the cover onto the battery box and lock the plastic fasteners. Turn on the engine to ensure that you connected to the battery correcly.

Tip: everything on your stereo will reset so you will need to set all of your settings once you have installed the new battery.

This is one of the most basic jobs to be performed on this vehicle and will take you less then 15 minutes to complete.
